The project will utilize both Boise State Universityand Chiang Mai University faculty and teaching assistants. The BSU SEG student chapter will provide three graduate student Teaching Assistants for the project. The chapter will also select a BSU undergraduate or new graduate student to train as an experienced teaching assistant and student leader for the project in possible subsequent years. The graduate students will be assigned individual pieces of equipment to use and teach thereby giving the students experience in planning and leading field exercises. Instruction will be in English. We recognize that English conversation skills of some students may be limited; however it is our experience that Southeast Asian students have good comprehension of written English and excellent computer skills. CMU faculty will help with Thai language translations, and bi-lingual participants for each national group will be required. We intend to teach up to 30 participants at the field camp with a student/instructor (faculty and BSU grad student) ratio of ~5:1. This student/instructor ratio has proven effective at similar field camps (e.g., CSM/BSU field camp). Faculty and staff from CMU will participate in the instruction. Participants will include upper-level undergraduate/graduate students from CMU (up to 20) and students from other Southeast Asian universities (and possibly affiliated faculty).
